Hickory Floor Lamp with shelf without

Posted by Stephen Tigner on Sep 10th 2023

We recently purchased a home in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and used Black Forest to decorate our living room with 15 different items. We love them all. The last item we received was the only one to arrive in a damaged condition. The Hickory Floor Lamp with Shelf without Shade was packaged to provide more protection than any other shipment we received. In fact, it was difficult to unwrap and could not be unwrapped without destroying the cardboard construction in the process. The package arrived in good condition. There were no creases or other signs to suggest that the lamp might be damaged. The lamp is designed to look like a tree trunk with a built-in shelf. The top of the bottom half and the bottom of the top half of the “tree trunk” each have large nails embedded in them and those nail anchor “up” and “down” into the shelf. When I finally got the lamp unwrapped the lamp was very crooked. Both the nails going up into the shelf and the nails going down into the shelf were exposed. The shelf was so crooked that the bubble was out of sight when a level was put on it. My first reaction was to send the lamp back. But repacking it would be a nightmare. Plus, it took almost 2 months to arrive. So, at the risk of permanent damage to the lamp I decide to use a rubber mallet and try to pound the lamp into proper uprightness. In the process I found that one of the “tree branches” used as the base had exposed nails and needed to be pounded into place. The result was “passable”. None of the nails are now visible. The lamp appears to be straight to the naked eye. I could not get the shelf perfectly level but it is close. It is so darn cute that we decided to keep it and assume nobody will notice the slightly crooked shelf.
