Fun Flicks to Watch in a Rustic CabinNot everyone is cut out for the maddening pace of life in the big city. Whether you live among the beauty of nature in a rural setting, or your ideal vacation involves quality time with loved ones in a rustic environment, a simple cabin surrounded by wilderness may suit you just fine. Still, you don't have to give up all the amenities of modern life. When you're feeling the pull of technology, pop in one of these flicks in keeping with your rustic cabin retreat.

The Cabin in the Woods (2011)

Obviously, right? While horror flicks often get relegated to the bottom rung of cinematic pop culture, this parody that plays on the tropes of the genre is guaranteed good fun. It all starts when college co-eds of questionable morality head to a cabin in secluded wilderness for a weekend of fun off the grid. Naturally, they get more than they bargained for in the form of zombie killers controlled by a nefarious shadow organization. Will they discover the secret? There's a lot more than meets the eye to this high-brow reimagining of traditional horror, but you still might want to sleep with the lights on afterward.

Dances with Wolves (1990)

In arguably the most epic role for an actor who's played such iconic parts as Elliot Ness, Wyatt Earp, and Robin Hood, Kevin Costner portrays Lieutenant John Dunbar, a reluctant army hero who longs to see the western frontier, finding friendship and acceptance with a Native American tribe along the way. The music and scenery are spectacular, as are performances by powerhouse actors like Mary McDonnell and Graham Greene, but it's the nuanced transformation of Dunbar that adds haunting appeal to this four-hour saga.

Into the Wild (2007)

Based on the international bestseller of the same name, which is based on the true story of Christopher McCandless, this movie sees Emile Hirsch, as Chris, leaving behind his worldly possessions to seek freedom and adventure in the wilds of Alaska. He makes fast friends along the way, but abandons them in pursuit of something "real." After months in the solitude of the Alaskan wilderness, he longs to return to the company of loved ones, but finds himself trapped, starving, and ill. All he can do is continue to document his journey and speak to his loved ones via his journal. Beautiful and bleak, this film is an exercise in extremes.

Open Season (2006)

What's a domesticated grizzly to do when he suddenly finds himself stranded in the woods with just days until hunting season opens? This is exactly the conundrum faced by Boog the bear in this hilarious animated film for the whole family. Boog teams up with a frantic mule deer to create an unlikely assemblage of woodland creatures to fight the hunters; but, will they be ready in time?

In Conclusion

No matter what type of movie you are looking for there is one available that takes place in woods. So, grab your popcorn, light a fire in the fireplace and get ready to enjoy!
